Join moderator, Marjan Safinia, and other friends of IDA for a special evening with filmmaker, Ross Kauffman. Learn about the fascinating journey of "Born into Brothels" from concept to screen to Oscar; discuss challenges, tips, and advice for shooting in foreign countries, co-directing, the value of mentors, making the move from documentary into narrative and the evolution of a career that starts with an Oscar for your first film.

Ross Kauffman is the director, producer, cinematographer and co-editor of BORN INTO BROTHELS, winner of over 40 awards including the 2005 Academy Award for Best Documentary. Kauffman also served Executive Producer and Consulting Producer on the documentary feature IN A DREAM, which was short-listed for the 2009 Academy Awards; and cinematographer of the acclaimed documentary feature PROJECT KASHMIR.

Marjan Safinia is a member of the IDA Board of Directors, a co-host of The D-Word Community online and the director and producer of the award-winning documentary feature, SEEDS.
